Bottom Line

Rocket Piano is the best of the low-cost, software-based piano instruction courses.  Because it is software-based (no DVDs or CDs), you will have to practice your lessons in front of the computer.  However, the training is quite extensive and the computer lessons are fairly easy to follow. Because the lessons are downloadable, it is easy to purchase them from anywhere in the world.  However, it is somewhat cumbersome and inconvenient to practice in front of a computer every day.  Fortunately, Rocket Piano does come with some video clips, while many of the other computer-based courses do not.  If cost is a factor and you don’t mind taking lessons from a computer, Rocket Piano is not a bad way to go.  It was my top pick until Learn & Master Piano came out, and it is still the best of the software-based instruction courses.

“I thought I would let you know that I purchased the full package. Nevertheless, I am going through the free lessons as well. More importantly, I am legally blind and so far have been able to follow the lessons reasonably well. The only problem I have had of any consequence is one of the games, something to do with keyboarding, I think. It is designed in soft pastel colors and therefore, unusable by me. The rest of the games offer good contrast and have proven quite beneficial. All-in-all I am quite pleased thus far. My low vision is creating obstacles, especially in reading notes on the staff.
